Tesla 691 HP Supersaloon
When it first came out, the Tesla Model S caused ripples in the industry, not just because it was a thoroughly refined and hugely appealing electric vehicle, but also because the 85kWh Performance variant was amazingly quick. Here was an EV that could crack the 0-100kph run in just 4.2 seconds, and top out at 210 kph. Now, even as the company works on an SUV, the enterprising Elon Musk decided to reveal the all-wheel drive variant of Model S.
Creatively titled the ‘D’, this version has two motors - one powering the front wheels (221bhp), and the other rolling the rears (470bhp). Combined, they bless the Model S with a total of 691bhp as much power as a Lamborghini Aventador and a small planet of torque available from standstill.
The Tesla team wanted to make it quicker than the legendary McLaren F1, and with a 0-96 kph time of just 3.2 seconds, it very nearly is. That said, the Macca could exceed 300 kph. This 2.2-tonne Tesla will only do 250 kph. Ambitious, but far from rubbish, because this is surely the fastest production hatchback, if not the fastest four-door ever made. To sweeten the deal, the D lasts longer: it’ll go 16 kilometres further than the rear-wheel drive variant on a full charge.
It gets autonomous braking, lane assist, automatic parking, a cruise control system that can read road signs, and it costs $120,170 (`73.5 lakh). Still, this is one expensive D that will keep you and your girlfriend more than happy.
