Jaguar XE Lents

IT HAS BEEN EAGERLY AWAITED BY THE MOTORING WORLD FOR several years, but now the new XE smaller Jaguar saloon has been revealed for the first time. While all the details and images were not released as we closed for publication, the best photo to date is here. With its release Jaguar also announced a raft of publicity to go with the car, and more technical details.

It created FEEL XE, a media platform created to harness the spirit of British creativity and innovation using an inspiring collective of figures from the worlds of music, film and design.

According to the Company: “The XE redefines the standard in its segment. Designed around Jaguar’s modular vehicle architecture, the XE is the only car in the class to use an aluminium-intensive monocoque, with lightweight aluminium accounting for 75 per cent of the structure. The weight reduction realised ensures that the XE is the most fuel-efficient Jaguar yet with fuel consumption and CO2 emissions on the NEDC combined cycle of over 3.8 kph, or 75 mpg, and less than 100 g/km respectively.

“Aluminium gives us a body structure with unrivalled low weight: it’s light but also immensely strong with extremely high levels of torsional stiffness. We’ve made sure our aluminium-intensive body structure exceeds all global safety standards without compromising on vehicle design or refinement.”

Dr Mark White, Chief Technical Specialist, Body Complete: “The XE’s aluminium-intensive body is beautiful to look at, but the structure also delivers exceptional torsional stiffness. The light but strong architecture incorporates highly advanced suspension systems delivering unparalleled levels of ride quality, handling and steering.

The Jaguar XE is also the first car in the world to make use of a new grade of high strength aluminium called RC 5754 which has been developed specifically for the XE. This new alloy features a high level of recycled material and makes a significant contribution to Jaguar’s goal of using 75 per cent recycled material by 2020.” Having recently driven the super-stiff and precise F-Type Coupé, the XE should be a fabulous machine to drive and ride in.
