Porsche Cayman GTS
HOW do you improve on perfection? If you're Porsche, you launch a more engaging version of the brilliant Cayman. Called the GTS, it has a 3.4-litre flat-six with 335bhp - that's 15bhp more than in the Cayman S.
The changes don't end with the extra power, either, with Porsche adding choice options like the Sport Chrono Pack and adaptive dampers. If you're serious about your driving, though, we'd recommend foregoing the adaptive dampers and choosing the sports chassis. It's new to the GTS and lowers it by an extra 20 millimetres over the standard S.
Whichever set-up you choose for your Cayman GTS you're guaranteed one of the most rewarding cars on the road. The engine accelerates hard through the range, but does its best work above 6,000rpm, roaring and crackling all the way. The manual gearbox is one of the best we've used, but the PDK auto is still a worthy alternative.
The Cayman's handling is sublime, with a chassis that communicates with the driver through the seats, steering wheel and pedals.
In many ways its balance and approachable on-the-limit performance make it a better bet for most drivers than any 911 this side of the near-perfect GT3.
And when you're not in the mood for blasting down your favourit e B-road, the Cayman GTS works well as a comfortable everyday car. With the adaptive dampers in their normal mode it feels surprisingly supple, the cabin is luxuriously trimmed and you'll find it's even pretty good on a motorway cruise.
