Peugeot 208 Revised For 2015
Remarkably, by the time the updated 208 supermini goes on sale in the UK in June, it will be three years since the original car arrived in dealer showrooms, and Peugeot is marking the occasion by releasing a series of subtle styling changes, new more frugal Euro 6 engines and a greater range of personalisation options. At the same time, sporty GT Line editions join the line-up, giving buyers the opportunity to buy a car that shares the looks of the flagship GTi, paired with an engine range that is more affordable.
The majority of the changes are centred around the front bumper, which features a wider grille, while the headlights now combine LED daytime running lights with black and chrome detailing on Active models and above. At the rear, the light clusters have been redesigned to incorporate the company’s trademark claw-like motif, and there’s a fresh range of alloy wheel options to choose from. On the inside, there’s a better quality steering wheel on Active models and above, and the soft-touch central strip has been revised so that it is more sumptuous on the plusher versions. New for the touchscreen is what Peugeot calls ‘MirrorScreen’ which replicates the display from the driver’s smartphone. Two other additional pieces of technology that are available in the 208 for the first time include autonomous emergency braking and a reversing camera.
The revised 208 line-up signals a new range of Euro 6 compliant 1.6-litre BlueHDi engines, in 74, 98 and 118bhp power outputs.
The revised 208 line-up signals a new range of Euro 6 compliant 1.6-litre BlueHDi engines, in 74, 98 and 118bhp power outputs. The first two engines are paired to a five-speed manual gearbox and are capable of a remarkable 94.1mpg and CO2 emissions of just 79g/km, while the 118bhp edition emits 94g/km and is mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
New GT Line models adopt features from the well-respected 208 GTi, but are paired to more affordable BlueHDi engines with 98 and 118bhp power outputs. There’s 17-inch alloy wheels, a gloss black grille with red three-dimensional markings, front fog light surrounds and door mirror shells in black, as well as a chrome window surround and exhaust finisher. Inside, there’s black and red sports seats with red stitching, which is duplicated on the gear lever gaiter, handbrake grip and door panels. The flat-bottomed steering wheel continues the theme with red stitching, and the black seat belts have a red stripe running through them. The sporty appearance is completed by aluminium sports pedals and door sill finishers.
The revised range is set to arrive in Peugeot showrooms in June, with prices and final specifications to be announced after the car is revealed at the Geneva motor show.
