Suzuki releases new Gixxers
For those wanting the performance but not the pain of a litre sports bike, the new Suzys could be answer, packing around 155hp from the grunt-laden long-stroke GSX-R1000 K5 engine which dates back to 2008. It has been reworked with new lightweight pistons and iridium spark plugs, while a four-into-two-into-one exhaust further optimises riding ease. The concept is easily accessible performance with a tonne of ride comfort. The lightweight frame is new, while the aluminium swingarm is borrowed from the current GSX-R1000.
Features include three-stage traction control, Brembo monobloc callipers (ABS optional), comprehensive digital instrumentation including fuel use and distance to empty, fully adjustable USD forks by KYB, a rear shock adjustable for preload and rebound, classy Renthal FatBars, and a fairing and dual headlamps on the F model. A seat height of 815mm and slim tank make it one of the lower
riding sport naked bikes. Suzuki describes the riding position as sports comfortable.
Also on the Suzuki stand, a new V-Strom, the 650XT ABS, like a junior version of the V-Strom 1000 we rode earlier in the year. The 90-degree V twin has been tuned for ease of riding, with bulk torque from low revs, like the 1000, and the chassis is an evolved form of the existing V-Stroms, only now with an extruded aluminium swingarm as well, and wire wheels. For extra ride comfort, the fairing includes an adjustable windscreen.
