Ferrari’s FXX K-ing
They’re not street legal or race regulated and the Prancing Horse even stores them for their (we presume) billionaire owners. But they’re the supermodels of the racing world, and you have to be bloody rich and special to even get close to trying one on for size.
Let’s run through the numbers: the hybrid LaFerrari punched out 708 kW from a V12 and electric motor to the rear wheels. The run of 499 cars costing at least $2m for local buyers sold out quickly, with a few making it Down Under.
The FXX K can pump out 771kW with slightly less torque (900Nm) than the standard, but has 50 per cent extra downforce due to an intense focus on a better aero package. The 6.3L engine’s intake manifolds have been redesigned and given a special polish possibly with the pubic hair of the Game of Thrones dragons.
There’s a GT-derived splitter on the front end, vertical fins channelling the air to the flanks which helps dissipate the wake from the wheels and side skirts. A higher tail section at the rear, plus a vertical fin and wing each side of the tail, boost downforce and leave the underbody as free from airflow as possible.
The chances of ever seeing one in action are slim, given only 32 were made at $3.2m a pop and they’re already sold out. Plus they have to be driven on Ferrari approved tracks and you can’t take them home.
Still, it’s not as expensive as McLaren’s similarly bonkers $4m P1 GTR, the Pommy marque’s extreme take on the 735 kW P1 hypercar. Porsche and Koenigsegg have yet to jazz up their hypercars, the 918 Spyder and One:1 respectively, but here’s hoping they do. This is one arms race every petrolhead can really get behind.
